KEULEN – Sinds de massale aanrandingen in Keulen tijdens de jaarwisseling is de spanning in Duitsland fors opgelopen. De ’Wir schaffen das’-toon waarmee bondskanselier Angela Merkel dit najaar de vluchtelingen welkom heette is omgeslagen. Veel Duitsers vinden dat de instroom volledig uit de hand is gelopen. Er is angst bij vrouwen om alleen over straat te gaan in bepaalde wijken van de grote steden, maar er is ook onrust bij asielzoekers, die de toon in het vluchtelingendebat zien verharden. Vendors meet city officials

Days of illegal, unhealthy vending are over, we got a city to run and we will run this city”- Deputy Mayor. “We are drawing the line against the many unacceptable and illegal practices of vendors in this city, you have voted for change; change has come and you will be a part of the new change and it has started.” So declared Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase-Green during an address to hundreds of vendors yesterday in the municipality’s compound. Man arrested in connection with death of American woman in Italy

ITALY   –  A man has been arrested in connection with the death of Ashley Olsen, a 35-year-old American artist living in Florence, according to multiple Italian media outlets. The reports did not identify the man and did not provide any detail. Italian officials have not announced the arrest and CNN has not independently confirmed it.
