Calais – Een 37-jarige Ethiopiër is dinsdag in het vluchtelingenkamp bij Calais doodgestoken. Aan de steekpartij gingen ‘s nachts twee ruzies tussen Afghanen en Afrikanen vooraf. Daarbij vielen zes gewonden. De prefectuur in het departement Pas-de Calais kondigde een uitgebreid onderzoek aan. Voor zover bekend heeft de politie nog geen verdachte voor de moord aangehouden. In Calais verblijven inmiddels al meerdere jaren migranten die proberen illegaal Groot-Brittannië te bereiken. In het illegale kamp nabij de haven van de stad verblijven duizenden mensen. De overheid heeft niet ver verwijderd daarvan een containerkamp opgezet. Bij de opeengepakte groepen vluchtelingen komt het vaak tot ongeregeldheden. The experimental solar-powered plane made aviation history when it landed in Abu Dhabi yesterday , after successfully circumnavigating the globe without using a single drop of fuel. The record-breaking mission flown by two Swiss pilots, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, evoked memories of the likes of the Wright brothers and Amelia Earhart — aviation pioneers with a similar spirit of adventure and innovation.

Patient shoots doctor at Berlin hospital
GERMANY – A patient shot a doctor yesterday at a Berlin hospital, then turned the gun on himself, police in the German capital said.
The doctor is hospitalized in critical condition, Berlin police spokeswoman Kerstin Ismer said. The shooter is dead, and the hospital campus is secure, police said.

Absconded GPL Deputy sues KN, Minister Patterson for $1B
Embattled former Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of the Guyana Power Light (GPL), Aeshwar Deonarine, is once again the subject of a court action.
This time, the former GPL Executive, who fled the country following allegations that he conspired with another to steal over $27 Million from the electricity company last year, is suing Kaieteur News for libel. In a writ filed by his Attorney Murseline Bacchus, Deonarine is claiming $1billion for defamation (libel) contained in unlawful and malicious contents of an article printed and published by this newspaper.
The article in question, Deonarine claimed, was published on July 24, 2015 under the caption “GPL Deputy CEO sent on leave for allegedly paying himself $27.8M.” There is no mention of the defamation nor is there any indication that Deonarine is in the country.(Kaieteurnews.com/photo:kaieteurnews.com)…[+]

PARAMARIBO – De autobestuurder DF heeft gisterochtend rond drie uur onder invloed van alcohol deelgenomen aan het verkeer in het district Saramacca. De politie was bezig met een road block toen de bestuurder werd gestopt voor controle. De wetsdienaren constateerden dat de man dronken was en onderwierpen hem aan een blaastest. De man bleek tweemaal de toegestane hoeveelheid alcohol op te hebben. Hij werd overgebracht naar het politiebureau en ontnuchterd, waarna hij werd voorgeleid. SRD 50.000 en sieraden buitgemaakt
PARAMARIBO – Criminelen hebben zaterdag een inbraak gepleegd in een woning in Paramaribo. Ze maakten SRD 50.000 en onbekend hoeveel sieraden buit. Ze verschaften zich de toegang in de woning door de achterdeur te forceren. Ze kwamen vervolgens in het pand aan waarna ze in de slaapkamer van de aangever zijn gegaan. Het geld en de sieraden waren in een klerenkast bewaard van waar die zijn gestolen. De benadeelde was zaterdag om 15.00 uur uit huis vertrokken en kwam rond 23.00 uur thuis aan. Prince Harry ‘regrets not speaking about Princess Diana’s death’
UK – Prince Harry has spoken of his regret that he did not talk about how the death of his mother, Princess Diana, affected him until three years ago. The Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash in 1997, when he was just 12.
Prince Harry, 31, was speaking as he hosted an event for the mental health charity, Heads Together, which was attended by a number of sports stars. He told the BBC the event was an opportunity to highlight that anyone can suffer from mental health issues.
Footballer Rio Ferdinand, athletes Dame Kelly Holmes and Iwan Thomas, and cyclist Victoria Pendleton – some of whom have spoken publicly about dealing with depression – were at the event.
