Trump doubles down on attack against Rep. John Lewis, blasts civil rights icon as liar

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump isn’t ready to let it go with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.).

Trump returned to his attacks against Lewis, a civil rights icon who the President-elect has been railing against for days over his decision to boycott Trump’s inauguration.

“John Lewis said about my inauguration, ‘It will be the first one that I’ve missed.’ WRONG (or lie)! He boycotted Bush 43 also,” Trump tweeted before quoting a 2001 Washington Post story that said Lewis skipped President George W. Bush’s swearing-in because he “thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush’s swearing-in because he doesn’t believe Bush is the true elected president.”

The attacks are Trump’s latest aimed at Lewis, a student civil rights leader who organized the original March on Washington and endured multiple beatings — including one at the Edmund Pettus bridge where his skull was fractured.(nydailynews)…[+]

Gunfire erupted at a beach resort rave in Mexico early Monday, leaving four people dead and at least nine others wounded, police said.

The shooting took place just after 2 a.m. as clubbers waited in line to attend the BPM Festival’s final night and more packed the dance party inside the Blue Parrot in the tourist haven of Playa del Carmen, about 40 miles south of Cancun. It’s unclear what sparked the incident during the annual dance music festival in its 10th year. A video shows terrified clubgoers cowering below tables as pounding music from “Psychedelic Trip” night continued inside the Blue Parrot. Others bolted through a street lined with nightclubs screaming “gun.”(nydailynews)…[+]

Jamaican stakeholders tour Canada to learn about Sea Water Air Conditioning

BRIDGETOWN– Stakeholders from the private and public sectors in Jamaica now have a better understanding of how sea water air conditioning (SWAC) technology can help reduce electricity costs. At the end of 2016, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) collaborated with New Leaf Power to host a study tour of Canada. During the trip, the group of 12 observed and learned about the operations of two alternative energy and eco-friendly air conditioning systems: the Toronto Deep Lake Water Cooling District and Emera Inc.’s cooling system in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Stakeholders from public sector organisations, including environmental agencies, collected information about the potential and challenges of the technology. Participants from private sector companies learned more about the system’s reliability of supply and the financial advantage of having a centralized district cooling network.

In the Caribbean, air conditioning accounts, on average, for 50 percent of the total energy consumption in commercial buildings, including hotels, offices and commercial shopping enterprises. SWAC is estimated to reduce electricity consumption for air conditioning by up to 90 percent.

Robert Wright, Managing Director of Jamaica-based New Leaf Power, noted that the study tour was another important step towards introducing this technology in the Caribbean.(CDB)…[+]

But senior level transition sources told ABC News on Sunday the visit is off due to unspecified “scheduling issues.” Trump is now planning to visit the museum sometime after assuming office, his officials said. The museum did not immediately comment.(nydailynews)…[+]
