George W. Bush’s daughters offer Sasha and Malia Obama advice on life after the White House

The former First Kids club is about to get two new members.

Former President George W. Bush’s twin daughters wrote a touching note to President Obama’s teenage girls, offering them advice on life beyond the White House.

“You are about to join another rarified club, one of former First Children — a position you didn’t seek and one with no guidelines,” Barbara Bush and Jenna Bush Hager wrote in an open letter published by TIME. “But you have so much to look forward to. You will be writing the story of your lives, beyond the shadow of your famous parents, yet you will always carry with you the experiences of the past eight years.”

The Bush twins — who were 7 years old when their grandfather George H. W. Bush became President in 1989 and were teenagers in college when their dad moved into the White House in 2001 — previously gave the Obama daughters advice after the 2008 election. Bush and Bush Hager gave a 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha a tour of the White house that November.(nydailynews)…[+]

Top intelligence official James Clapper sides with Donald Trump, blasts Russia dossier leak as ‘extremely corrosive’

The U.S. intelligence community’s top official has expressed “profound dismay” over an unverified document alleging that President-elect Donald Trump in 2013 hired prostitutes to perform “perverted” sex acts at a luxury hotel in Moscow.

James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence, said in a statement that he met with Trump Wednesday evening to discuss the unsubstantiated 35-page document, which was released in its entirety by BuzzFeed earlier this week.

“I expressed my profound dismay at the leaks that have been appearing in the press, and we both agreed that they are extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security,” Clapper said, declining to comment on the credibility of the document, which is being investigated by the FBI.

President Obama hopes Donald Trump will “seriously” consider the latest allegations that Russian officials intended to compromise him by documenting his alleged “personal obsessions and sexual perversion.”

Obama was being interviewed by NBC’s Lester Holt just as news broke Tuesday evening that he and the President-elect recently received top-secret briefings on a 35-page dossier alleging that Russian operatives had been “cultivating” Trump since 2012 in order to turn him into a pro-Kremlin puppet.

“My hope is that this work will continue after I leave; that Congress in possession of both the classified and unclassified reports, that the President-elect and his administration — in possession of both the classified and unclassified reports — will take it seriously and now get to work reinforcing those mechanisms that we can use to protect our democracy,” Obama said, declining to go into details about the report, citing confidentiality concerns.(nydailynews)…[+]

Gov. Cuomo proposes plan to ban bankers with ‘unacceptable behavior’ in New York

The state would be able to ban bad actors from the financial services industry under a proposal Gov. Cuomo announced Sunday.

The plan, which Cuomo will discuss in his State of the State speeches this week, is meant to beef up New York’s powers to crack down on shady bankers like those at Wells Fargo, which was fined for opening up bogus accounts for customers without their knowledge.

Cuomo plans to pursue legislation which would allow the superintendent of the Department of Financial Services to bar individuals from working in the banking or insurance industries if he finds after a hearing that the person has engaged in misconduct severe enough to have a direct bearing on their fitness to participate in the industry.

“New York is the financial center of the world and we have zero tolerance for those who seek to defraud customers and undermine the system,” Cuomo said. “The excesses and systematic abuse at the center of the Wells Fargo scandal is unacceptable and New York, in its role as a regulator, is seeking to take bold steps to crack down on this unacceptable behavior.”(nydailynews)…[+]
