NYPD cop used pink handcuffs to restrain dying Kimani Gray, 16, after he was shot by police

An NYPD cop being sued for restraining 16-year-old Kimani Gray after he was shot seven times by police, secured the dying youth’s hands behind his back with pink-colored handcuffs, according to court papers.

It is unclear why Police Officer John Hoder was carrying the unusual handcuffs. But it was apparently a well-known fact among his fellow officers that the pink bracelets belonged to him when they were questioned as to how they knew who had restrained Gray. “I don’t know if he used pink cuffs to demean (someone under arrest) or if it’s something allowed by the police for some other reason,” said lawyer Richard Cardinale, who represents Gray’s motehr in a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force and illegal handcuffing.(nydailynews.com)…[+]

Revived FBI Clinton-email probe not swaying most voters, survey finds

Nearly two-thirds of voters are unswayed by the recent news that the FBI has reopened its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, a new poll shows.

According to an ABC News / Washington Post poll released Sunday, 63% of likely voters said the revelation Friday from FBI Director James Comey that the bureau had found a new batch of emails “pertinent” to the probe it had closed in July and would reopen the investigation had no bearing on the way they would vote next month.

Another 34% of respondents said the news made them less likely to vote for Clinton, while 2% said it made them more likely to vote for her.(nydailynews.com)…[+]

Alaska cop who predicted own shooting dies from eye surgery complications

An Alaska cop died Friday due to complications from surgery, two weeks after he was shot while on duty — a shooting he predicted while reading bedtime stories to his children.

Sgt. Allen Brandt of the Fairbanks Police Department underwent remedial eye surgery after being shot on Oct. 16.

“Fairbanks lost a hero today,” Deputy Police Chief Brad Johnson said at a news conference, holding back tears.

“Sgt. Allen Brandt lost the fight. He had surgery yesterday and suffered complications afterward, which continued to deteriorate though the day and from which he was unable to recover,” Johnson said.(nydailynews.com)…[+]

Indiana teen who killed at age 12 could return home

An Indiana teen who served six years in prison for helping to kill his friend’s stepfather when he was 12 was resentenced Friday, and could return home to his mother as early as February. Whitley County Judge James Heuer resentenced Paul Gingerich, now 18, on Friday to serve 300 days in a medium-security correctional facility and to participate in community programs that could shave 120 days from his sentence if he shows good conduct, his attorney, Monica Foster, said. With good behavior, he could be released after 90 days. Gingerich would remain under electronic surveillance until 2020 with 10 years of probation afterward, The Indianapolis Star reported.(nydailynews.com)…[+]

Donald Trump makes last-minute $10M transfer to campaign after not giving for much of October

Donald Trump has made a last-minute $10 million cash infusion into his campaign, Trump advisors tell the Wall Street Journal, a donation coming shortly after new election documents showed he hadn’t given a dime in October. The new donation will help fund a last-minute $25 million ad buy, according to the Journal.

Trump had made no cash donations to his campaign and spent just $31,000 in in-kind donations to his efforts to become president in the first three weeks of October, according to Federal Election Commission reports released late Thursday. That was a big departure from the average of $2 million a month he was spending personally in his first months as the GOP nominee, when it looked more likely that he could knock off Hillary Clinton. Recent polls show the race slightly closer than it was a week ago, but almost all reputable polls have Clinton with a comfortable national lead and an edge in key swing states.(nydailynews.com)…[+]

The world voted against the Blockade of Cuba: the United States abstains

HAVANA- The World condemned on Wednesday at the United Nations, for the 25th occasion, the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, while the abstention of the U.S. government was unprecedented.

With the positive vote of 191 countries, the Resolution “The Need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States of America” was approved.

Israel abstained together with the United States, as convincing proof of the generalized and permanent condemnation to that criminal measure, and voting took place shortly after Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez presented the corresponding Resolution at the 71st Ordinary Period of Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly and representatives of several nations demanded the end of this economic siege.     The U.S. vote is consistent with the current process towards the normalization of bonds between Havana and Washington, started on December 17, 2014.     The stance of the government of Barack Obama with respect to the blockade against Cuba takes place a few days after the Presidential Policy Directive toward Cuba, a document that has some positive elements but the contents of which is in essence of interference. (ACN)…[+]

Erica Garner blasts Clinton campaign over discussions staffers had about her father’s death in WikiLeaks emails

“I’m troubled by the revelation that you and this campaign actually discussed ‘using’ Eric Garner … Why would you want to ‘use my dad?” Garner tweeted along with a link to emails released by WikiLeaks. “These people will co opt anything to push their agenda. CDB approves USD3.7 mn for Youth Empowerment Project in Saint Lucia

BRIDGETOWN– The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved funding of USD3.7 mn to support at-risk youth in Saint Lucia. The Youth Empowered for Life Project will expand access to existing social services, as well as develop new social programmes to target young people and their families in selected communities across Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucia is faced with an increasing crime rate, driven in part by inadequate social infrastructure and limited access to social services. Youth in Saint Lucia face disproportionately high levels of unemployment and underemployment, which can lead youth to turn to crime and gang violence. The Project will focus on mitigating risk factors that can lead to criminal behavior, enhance employability, and support community safety and security.

“Through this Project, we hope to divert young people away from crime and violence, and enable them to make positive contributions to their households, communities and wider society. The Project was designed to meet the needs of different age groups and genders, and we are optimistic about the outcomes it will achieve,” said Deidre Clarendon, Division Chief, Social Sector Division, CDB.

The project includes the expansion of existing Youth Court Diversion Programmes, which target youth who have committed minor crimes, in an effort to prevent reoffending. Community-based programmes will also be implemented, including after-school and summer programmes, workshops which focus on skills such as leadership development and training, and the inclusion of sports and expressive arts in communities. The Project will also look at options for redevelopment of the George V Park in Castries, which will provide a safe public space for children, young people and families.[+]
