Three bandits were busted in Brooklyn’s Chinatown Monday for swiping more than $1 million worth of frozen eels in a massive heist from a shipping terminal in Elizabeth, New Jersey, cops said. The slippery crooks were arrested when cops busted them selling the delicacies at Eighth Avenue and 66th Street in Sunset Park at around 2:50 p.m., according to police. The Brooklyn crooks — Wei Da Li, 39, Sheauloon Yat, 51, Fa Deng, 36 — picked up the shipment of 2,000 boxes of eels back on June 1 from a New Jersey terminal by using fraudulent paperwork supposedly from Mars Global Trading. The trio transported the shipment, worth a total of $1,040,000, to Brooklyn.(nypost.com)…[+]

Trump hikes rent on his own campaign office in Trump Tower
Running for president is good for Donald Trump’s bottom line.
The real estate mogul jacked up the rent on his own presidential campaign, billing it more than four times the previous cost for its use of Trump Tower, once the dough wasn’t coming out of his own pocket , according to a new report.
In March, the campaign shelled out $35,458, but by July, the rent ballooned to $169,758, according to the Huffington Post. The reason for difference, the site claims, is that in March the mogul was mainly self-funding his primary presidential campaign. But in July, the Trump campaign transitioned to using outside funds to finance the campaign.(nypost.com)…[+]

Clinton camp sends out desperate plea for more funds
Campaign manager Robby Mook has written a panicky pitch to Hillary Clinton supporters warning that fundraising numbers are dipping – even adding “that’s how elections are lost.”
“Our poll numbers are holding steady, which is good. We’re growing our field organization, building out neighborhood teams in communities all over the country — which is even better,” Mook wrote. “But that’s happening at a time when our fundraising levels are, frankly, dipping.” Mook appears to attribute lower fundraising numbers with overconfidence. “It seems that with our convention in the rearview mirror and pundits constantly saying that ‘momentum’ is on our side, a lot of people believe that we have this locked up and that donations don’t matter anymore.”(nypost.com)…[+]

Woman’s funeral had no attendees, so 30 strangers showed up
ORANGETOWN, N.Y. — About 30 people have paid their respects to a woman they never met after responding to a call for attendees for a suburban New York funeral at which no one was expected to show up.
The Journal News reports the strangers served as Francine Stein’s pallbearers and also helped bury her during the service Wednesday at a cemetery in Orangetown. Stein died at the age of 83. Rabbi Elchanan Weinbach officiated the service and says there was no eulogy because he didn’t know anything about the woman. He learned at the cemetery that Stein was a musician and had taught at the Julliard School. The call for volunteers came on Facebook from Weinbach’s daughter. One attendee said she came to the service as a simple act of “human decency.”(nypost.com)…[+]

Trump tours flood-ravaged Louisiana — before Obama or Clinton
While President Obama relaxed on Martha’s Vineyard and Hillary Clinton hobnobbed with celebs in Miami, Donald Trump toured flood-battered Louisiana on Friday, drawing cheers as he met with victims and volunteers.
Joined by his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, for a three-hour stop, the Republican nominee got a warm welcome at a Baptist church in East Baton Rouge Parish.
“We knew you would be here for us!” a woman screamed as Trump signed hats, shook hands and discussed the damage with volunteers. Nearly 7 trillion gallons of rain fell on Mississippi and Louisiana last week, swelling rivers, inundating neighborhoods and claiming at least 13 lives.(nypost.com)…[+]

Jewish man stabbed in France by man reportedly yelling ‘Allahu akbar’
PARIS — Police say a man with a history of psychiatric problems attacked a Jewish man with a knife in the eastern French city of Strasbourg.
A Strasbourg police spokesman who wasn’t authorized to be publicly named said the attacker was immediately arrested, and the victim was not seriously hurt in Friday’s incident. The spokesman said the knife-wielding man was reported to have said “Allahu akbar” as he assaulted the Jewish man, who was wearing “clear exterior signs of his religion.” He said local police do not consider it a terrorist attack. He called the attacker someone with “clear deficiencies” who had a police record, without elaborating. The incident comes as France is on edge after a string of Islamic extremist attacks. Jews have been specifically targeted in some past violence…[+]
