Thousands of Brits rush for EU passports after Brexit vote

UK   –  Thousands of Brits are so worried about losing their access to the European Union that they’re lining up for passports from other countries in the bloc.

Embassies and consulate offices for Germany, Italy, Sweden, Poland and Hungary all reported a surge in interest in the days immediately after the Brexit referendum. The German embassy in London was getting about 200 calls and emails a day immediately after the vote, a tenfold increase on normal levels, a spokesperson said. The pace has slowed a bit but about 100 people a day are still contacting the embassy. Govt. seeks international help in KN grenade attack probe

The Government of Guyana has appealed for international help in tracking the ‘intellectual authors’ behind the June 4 grenade attack on Kaieteur News.

The appeal was made even as police seek the whereabouts of Shemar Wilson, who is believed to have fled overseas. Outgoing Deputy Chief of Mission, Bryan Hunt, had commended the Government for trying to ascertain the identities of the perpetrators and having them prosecuted. Turkish cleric: Erdogan behind coup, not me

An elderly Turkish imam who has been living in exile in the Poconos and was blamed for Friday’s botched coup says Turkey’s president plotted the overthrow himself as a political ploy.

Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, 75, spoke to reporters Sunday through an interpreter at his home in Saylorsburg, Pa.

3 cops shot dead in Baton Rouge attack

Three cops were killed and three more injured — including one critically — by a masked gunmen targeting officers near police headquarters in Baton Rouge on Sunday morning, authorities said.

The shooting began around 9 a.m. when patrolling officers saw a “suspicious person walking down Airline Highway with an assault rifle,” officials said.

Cpl. L’Jean McNeely, of the Baton Rouge Police Department told reporters that the gunman, who was dressed in black, died in a final shoot-out at the Be Quick gas station.(nypost.com)…[+]

Man killed in cop’s alleged drunken crash was MIT student

The young man killed by an allegedly drunken off-duty NYPD cop in Brooklyn was a star wrestler and Eagle Scout who was attending MIT on a full scholarship.

India ‘gold man’ battered to death

INDIA   –  An Indian man who bought one of the world’s most expensive shirts made entirely of gold has been allegedly battered to death, police said.

Datta Phuge shot to the limelight in 2013 when he bought a shirt made with more than 3kg of gold and worth $250,000 (£186,943). A money lender based in western Pune, Mr Phuge was called “the gold man”. Four persons have been detained for questioning. Police suspect a dispute over money have led to the murder. The police said some 12 people attacked Mr Phuge, 48, in Pune on Thursday night. Gingrich wants ‘Sharia test’ for US Muslims

US   –  Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has suggested testing all US Muslims to see if they believe in Sharia law, and deporting those who do.

Sharia is a legal code based on the Koran and other Islamic scriptures. Mr Gingrich’s comments follow an attack in the French city of Nice, which has killed at least 84 people. Prince Harry gets tested for HIV to raise awareness

UK   –  A simple jab of the finger is all it takes for a prince of England to bring attention to the fight against HIV. Yesterday, Prince Harry headed to a London clinic to get tested for HIV live on Facebook to show people how simple it is to take the test.

Kensington Palace posted a link to the video on its Twitter feed along with a photo. The whole process — taking the test and learning the results — took less than four minutes.  “It’s amazing how quick it is,” said Harry, who tested negative for HIV.  After getting the results, the prince encouraged people to get tested, even those who don’t think they have been exposed, in an effort to normalize the process.(CNN.COM/photo:cnn.com)…[+]
