Historic climate pact adopted at COP21, China vows to take obligations

PARIS  — The historic Paris agreement on climate change was finally adopted with no objection on Saturday by the 196 Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) during the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) hosted by France.

“The Paris Climate Conference is a crucial point in the global climate governance process. The outcome has a bearing with the undertaking of climate change of the human being and our future of sustainable development,” China’s Special Representative on Climate Change Xie Zhenhua said after the adoption of the Paris agreement. Xie stressed that China, as a responsible developing country, will take international obligations commensurate with its own national condition, development stage and actual capacity.

“Although the agreement is not perfect, it does not stop us from moving a historical step forwards,” Xie said, calling on developed countries to abide by their promises to provide finance, technology development and transfer, and capacity building to developing countries.(Xinhua)…[+]

Guyanese gets US$759,000 judgment against Delta

A Brooklyn jury ordered Delta Airlines to pay US$759,000 in damages to a security guard who was arrested Thursday after a nefarious baggage handler planted cocaine in his suitcase. “I must give praise and thanks to God!”, a beaming Roger Levans said outside Brooklyn Federal Court , after the jury deliberated only two hours and found the airline was negligent. Gunmen beat, rob Meten–Meer–Zorg businessman

A businessman is now left traumatized and counting his losses after two armed men invaded his Meten–Meer–Zorg, West Coast Demerara home. The robbery occurred on Wednesday, and according to 41–year–old Ravindra Persaud, the masked men gained entry by removing louvre window panes in his bathroom. Ex-Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw guilty of rape

U.S. –   For about six months, Daniel Holtzclaw preyed on women in one of Oklahoma’s poorest neighborhoods, exploiting his police badge to intimidate them into keeping quiet. Two bandits killed in shootout with Police

Some residents of Greater Georgetown breathed a sigh of relief Wednesday after two bandits were shot dead by the police in what is being described as a fierce shootout.  Pioneer Lane, South Ruimveldt Park, was likened to a warzone with the sounds of rifle and small arms fire, which lasted for several minutes, and when the smoke cleared, two men lay dead.  The two men who have been identified as Edgar Blackman and Sherwin James, called ‘Tupac’, both 22 years old and of Tucville, were part of a gang that had attempted to commit a robbery on the home of Paul Morrison.(Kaieteurnews.com/photo:Kaieteurnews.com)…[+]

Cops secure evidence for prosecution in Pradoville 2

Police investigators have now secured potential evidence in the matter involving the controversial allocation and sale of prime seaside property at Sparendaam to themselves by former President Bharrat Jagdeo and a number. The police are carrying out investigations based on the recommendations of the State Asset Recovery Unit (SARU), headed by Professor Clive Thomas. The investigation had been stalled after the police were advised by their Legal Advisor Justice Claudette Singh to seek clarification on several aspects of the matter. Trump ‘postpones’ Israel trip after Netanyahu criticism

U.S   –   Donald Trump said Thursday that he is postponing his trip to Israel, just a day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned his proposal to ban U.S. travel for all Muslims. “I have decided to postpone my trip to Israel and to schedule my meeting with @Netanyahu at a later date after I become President of the U.S.,” Trump tweeted. Knife attack confused for performance art at Art Basel Miami Beach

U.S   –  A bloody crime or performance art?  That’s what visitors to Art Basel in Miami Beach were left wondering after an altercation between two women attending the art fair turned violent. A woman was stabbed after accusing her attacker of following her around the art fair and bumping into her repeatedly, local media reported. Legislation to relax marijuana convictions for Parliament

Attorneys Nigel Hughes and Mark Waldron have completed a draft new legislation to relax marijuana convictions. This comes in the wake of the imprisonment of former national footballer turned coach, Vibert Butts by a city Magistrate for the possession of marijuana.  Butts has since appealed the conviction and sentence and is expected to be released on $350,000, pending the outcome of the appeal. The legislation, which aims to revise stipulations of the denial of bail, the mandatory minimum serving time and the violation of the separation of power, is likely to be tabled in the National Assembly on December 17. Citizens died while PPP/C Ministers utilized medical aid on “cosmetics”- Harmon

The People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) government was so “callous” about the welfare of ordinary Guyanese that it allowed ailing citizens, who required government funding for medical procedures, to die, while its Ministers were looking after “cosmetics” and other unnecessary procedures.
