Couple in suspected suicide at seawalls

Police are trying to ascertain the identities of a young couple whose bodies were found at the Kingston seawalls Monday . Police said that the victims of East Indian ancestry were fully clothed and are estimated to be in their early twenties. It is believed that the victims committed suicide. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that none of the bodies bore any marks of violence. He said that Crime Scene ranks retrieved two receipts from the right pocket of the dead man. TURKEY –  Voters delivered a surprise win for Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, in elections on Sunday.

Granger to decree Nov. 1 as Defence Force Day

As the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) celebrates its 50th anniversary, President David Granger has indicated his intention to declare November 1st as Defence Force Day.

President Granger made the declaration during a church service held yesterday at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) to commemorate the Force’s anniversary. Granger said that the decision was a token of gratitude to the men and women of the GDF, past, present and future.“As a token of the gratitude of the nation to our military men and women, I intend to declare that today, the First of November – and that this day every year hereafter – shall be observed throughout the nation as Defence Force Day.”

According to the retired Brigadier, it was his honour to be Guyana’s newest Commander-in-Chief during the GDF’s important milestone. Funeral parlour owners accuse Top Cop of cronyism

The proprietor of the Lyken/Newburg funeral home is calling on the Ministry of Public Security to put out a tender for the collection of human remains on behalf of the state, to eliminate what is being described as cronyism by a senior official of the Guyana Police Force. Dr. Dawn Stewart is convinced that the instruction of the Commissioner of Police to have human remains taken to the new Memorial and Crematorium Gardens Funeral Parlour is arbitrary and has created an uneven playing field. Dynamic Airways plane catches fire at Florida airport

The engine of a Caracas, Venezuela-bound Boeing 767 caught fire while the plane taxied for departure Thursday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, a US Federal Aviation Administration official said. The pilot of an aircraft traveling behind Dynamic International Airways Flight 405 reported fuel was leaking from the aircraft before it caught fire, the official said. The fire occurred about 12:30 pm on the airport’s north runway. Passengers evacuated the jet via emergency slides onto the taxiway. Economic cooperation tops agenda for Merkel’s China visit

GERMANY – German Chancellor Angela Merkel is making her eighth visit to China with strengthening economic links atop her agenda. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Merkel witnessed the signing of 13 cooperation agreements after their talks on Thursday, including a deal for China to buy 130 aircraft from Airbus. The planes have a list price of 17 billion U.S. dollars, making the deal one of the largest orders China has ever placed with the European aviation giant. Merkel landed in Beijing earlier on Thursday, becoming the most frequent visitor to China among Western leaders. Linden pensioner was manually strangled – postmortem

As the police continue their hunt for murder suspect Mark Reid, a postmortem has revealed that his father, Andrew Reid, was beaten and strangled. A senior police official confirmed that the postmortem showed that the 82-year-old pensioner died from manual strangulation and brain hemorrhage. His son, Mark Reid, is the prime suspect in the killing. The ex-convict has not returned to his Canvas City home since his father’s body was found last Saturday. Goldfields makes first sale as declarations creep upwards

U.S   –  For Shaker Aamer, the last British resident held in the American prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, it has been a long haul.
