Yoga can ease arthritis
Research has shown the ancient Eastern art to ease symptoms of the two most common forms of the condition. Regular yoga sessions lessened pain, boosted energy levels and made it easier to carry out everyday tasks. Importantly, the benefits were still evident months after the classes ended. The US researchers said: ‘There’s a real surge of interest in yoga as a complementary therapy. ‘Yoga may be especially well-suited to people with arthritis because it combines physical activity with potent stress management and relaxation techniques and focuses on respecting limitations that can change from day to day.’ All of those involved in the study either had osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear of cartilage that helps the joints take the strain of bending, lifting, gripping and kneeling, and affects more than eight million Britons.(dailymail.co.uk)…[+]
Man trains pet to get him a beer
USA – A pet pooch certainly proved that it was man’s best friend when it went and retrieved a bottle of beer from the fridge for its owner. Michael Impelluso captured footage of his dog Ryder obeying his command to quench his thirst on a number of cameras at their home, in what is believed to be in New Jersey, USA. In the clip Michael utters the magic words: ‘It’s Miller Time,’ and the pooch springs into action with an excited bark. Ryder then heads off into the kitchen and pulls on a towel around the handle of the fridge with his mouth – all the while he wears a New York Giants jersey. The fridge door swings open and the obedient pooch locates the bottle of Miller Lite. He then picks it up in his mouth and heads back to the front room with it – giving the door of the fridge a nudge on the way past so that it closes.(dailymail.co.uk)…[+]

Our terrifying swim: Two Syrians’ journey through dark waters to Greece

Swimming, he decided, was his best chance. The one-time college student had traveled all the way from the Damascus suburb of Daraya to Turkey’s west coast. He couldn’t give up now…[+]
