Male nurse arrested on rape charges

A 28-year-old male nurse who works at the Academic Hospital Paramaribo  (AZP) has been arrested on rape charges. The suspect  who has been a  nurse for six years allegedly raped a pregnant patient who had been admitted to the hospital for observation. A Team rounds up gang of robbers

Police officers from the Arrest Team (A Team) recently rounded up a gang of four Brazilian robbers. Police Inspector Ulrich Tjin Liep Shie, head of the A Team, confirmed the arrests. At the time of their arrest the Brazilians had 4 five shooters, a rifle and a Glock pistol on them. The police confiscated the weapons. Teacher who threw eraser was angry

The teacher from the Petuhniaschool who threw an eraser at a student was reportedly angry at the time of the incident. The students were reportedly throwing erasers through the class and one of the erasers hit the teacher’s foot. She then picked it up and threw it back at the student who had thrown it but the eraser hit another student’s head. The male student reportedly sustained a head injury. Bouterse and Adhin will be elected in Parliament

Parliament will soon hold a session to elect the nation’s president and vice president. Given the current state of affairs Desi Bouterse (NDP) will be reelected president for a second term. The progressive Reform Party (VHP) and the National Party Suriname  (NPS) from the opposition reportedly will not present rival candidates. Bouterse and vice president elect  Ashwin Adhin  can already count on 32 votes but they need 2 more votes. Venezuela guarantees oil supply

Suriname will continue to purchase oil from Venezuela. The last few years Suriname has been supplied with 4.6 million oil barrels through the PetroCaribe agreement. On Monday 29 June the 15th Ministerial Council of PetroCaribe was held in Caracas and it was headed by Venezuela’s Minister for Petroleum and Mining, Asdrúbal Chávez. The meeting was held on the occasion of the 10th birthday of the regional PetroCaribe energy supply agreement. During this meeting the member states evaluated the PetroCaribe Agreement.
