Lackin:“Partners for new coalition have been found”

OKB to investigate objections

The Independent Voting Bureau (OKB) will investigate the objections that were filed at the Central Main Voting Bureau (CHS) by the V7 bloc and the National Democratic Party (NDP). The NDP has objected against the results on area council (RR) level in the Carolina province which is located in the Para District while V7 has objected against the results in the Rainville province located in Paramaribo. NDP receives political parties that reeled in seats

The chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP),  Desire Bouterse, on Monday received all political parties that have reeled in parliamentary seats except for the Pertjajah Luhur (PL). The Progressive Reform Party (VHP) was the first political party to be invited to the tentative talks that took place in the press center of the president. About 73% of voters’ voted the valid way

Statistics indicate that there were 259,458 valid votes nationwide on parliamentary and area council (RR) level. This number (259,458)  is equal to about 73% of the number of people  ( 356,223) who had the right to vote. The number of invalid votes, blank ballots and confiscated ballots has not been announced which is why the number of people who went to the polls on Election Day, May 25, still can’t be determined.  The number of valid votes is good for 51 seats on parliamentary level, 118 district council seats and 764 area council seats…[+]

Knife-wielding robber sentenced to 18 months in prison

A judge last week sentenced a man to 2.5 years in prison after having found him guilty of drug possession and armed robbery. The judge sentenced the man in accordance with the prosecution’s demand. The defendant was also given a SRD 500 fine. If he does not pay the fine, he will have to spend an additional two weeks in prison. The victim told the court that he was on his way home from a party when the suspect approached him and asked if he had something for him. SRK has more than 6,000 blood donors

The Surinamese Red Cross (SRK) reportedly has more than 6,000 blood donors. This means that Suriname is one of the few countries in the region where blood is donated voluntarily 100% to the Blood Bank by blood donors. World Blood Donor Day 2015 is celebrated on 14 June each year. Would-be rapist sentenced to 30 months in prison

SURINAME – A man was recently found guilty of the attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl and was given a prison sentence. The would-be rapist will spend the next two and half years in a state penitentiary. The man reportedly tried to rape the girl when she came to sleep on his bed. The man lived under the same roof with his wife and two kids. One of his wife’s girlfriend’s eventually moved into their home with her two kids, including the 12-year-old girl. The girl reportedly often slept next to the suspect’s wife in their bedroom. The rape attempt took place when the man went to bed. Family of 5 homeless after fire

SURINAME – A couple and their 3 children became homeless when their house went up in flames on Thursday night. Fire Department (KBS) spokesman, Olton Pinas, told Times of Suriname that the house was already ablaze when firefighters arrived at the house which is located along the Walapastraat. CHS has processed official reports

SURINAME – “The Central Main Voting Bureau (CHS) has already processed the official reports from all the main voting bureaus from the various districts,” said Eugene Merkus who added that the official reports from the main voting bureau in Paramaribo that were handed in later than planned have also been processed.
