Staatsolie to start drilling this month

SURINAME – Staatsolie (State Oil Company) will reportedly commence with its exploration drilling in Bloc 4, a section off the coast of Saramacca and Wanica, this month. The operation will be coordinated by Paradise Oil Company, a subsidiary of  Staatsolie.  The drilling rig that will be used arrived at the first location on Saturday. The first location is 10 kilometers off the coast. The trip from Trinidad & Tobago lasted 6 days. Hok: “No formal talks yet”

SURINAME –Jimmy Hok, chairman of the  Progressieve Arbeiders en Landbouwers Unie (PALU), pointed out that there have not been any formal talks yet with the National Democratic Party (NDP) regarding the formation of a government. He also pointed out that PALU has already had informal talks with other political parties. The PALU chairman indicated that the party will most certainly cooperate with efforts to form a new government if asked to cooperate. Masked gunmen rob family

SURINAME – A family that lives at the corner of the Prinsessestraat and the  Ringweg was robbed on Thursday night. The parents and their son were home when two masked gunmen barged into their home. Inmate swallows SIM card

SURINAME  –  An inmate most likely swallowed a SIM card when he was caught talking on a mobile phone this week.  Paulus Pinas, deputy director at the Justice and Police Ministry’s Offender Care Department, confirmed that the inmate had been caught red-handed. HIV –positive man on trial over unsafe sex with teenager

SURINAME – HIV-positive RL (42) risks going to prison for 3.5 years for having unsafe sex with a 17-year-old girl. The defendant had not told the girl that he is HIV positive.  The police received an anonymous tip that the suspect had ‘met’ the girl on Facebook. She moved in with him and had unsafe sex with him.
