SURINAME – Sixteen youths have been arrested within one week. Public Defender Reshma Garib told Times of Suriname that the youths were arrested on charges of robbery and assault. In one of the cases one youth was killed while another was injured. The public defender therefore expressed her concern regarding the public acts of violence. She is urging parents and guardians to keep an eye on their kids and their behavior. They made this very clear during a survey that was carried out recently by NIKOS. 81% of the respondents indicated that they are discontent with the traffic situation. SURINAME – About 50% of the people who participated in a survey that was conducted in the last two weeks of March by IDOS indicated that they still have not decided who they will vote for on Election Day, May 25. The latest survey differs with about 15% with the survey that IDOS carried out in the same district in February. SURINAME – A 12-year-old boy on Tuesday while he was busy helping his dad to renovate a house located at De Nieuwe Grond. Reports indicate that the boy, his brothers and father were renovating the house when a load bearing beam fell on the boy’s head. The boy did not survive the accident.
