MP Cheung cuts ties with NDP
MP Noureen Cheung is no longer a member of the National Democratic Party (NDP). MP Cheung on Thursday told her colleagues that she “is a one-woman faction within Parliament.” It was clear that her former team members were not happy with her decision but the members of the opposition were extremely happy and immediately wanted to shake hands with Cheung. Stichting voor het Kind receives overdue subsidy
The overdue subsidy has been wired to the bank account of Stichting voor het Kind (Stivoki). SRD 7,000 stolen from school
Criminals recently burglarized a school located at Paranam in the Para District. The perpetrators reportedly ransacked the office before making off with a monitor,a tray beverages and SRD 7,000. Metal-cutting saws intercepted..again
Two brand new metal-cutting saws have been intercepted again in the same state penitentiary. Several metal-cutting saws have been intercepted in the prison in questions during the past couple of weeks. Paulus Pinas, deputy director at the Justice and Police Ministry’s Offender Care Department, told Times of Suriname that the two metal-cutting saws were intercepted around 3 a.m. on Monday. Intercepted coke weighs 430 kilograms
Police Commissioner Humphrey Tjin Liep Shie on Tuesday told reporters that the 373 cocaine parcels that were intercepted last week have a gross weight of 430 kilos and have a street value of more than 20 million Euros. The Union of South American Nations (Unasur) will send a mission to Suriname to monitor the General Elections of May 2015. Police launch campaign against noise pollution
The Geyersvlijt Police Department recently launched a large scale operation against people who are responsible for noise pollution. Police Inspector Ruben Dijks, chief of the Geyersvlijt Precinct, told Times of Suriname that seventeen vehicles were impounded at the parking lot of the Maretraite Mall during the weekend. The modified vehicles will reportedly be reinspected. The police have already removed the speaker boxes from these vehicles. The owners of these vehicles were given a SRD 350 fine for creating a nuisance.
