Teen suspect shot dead
16-year-old Dominio Hiwat on Friday night died along the Ruthlaan during a joint operation of police officers and soldiers. Hiwat and two other boys, Lorenzo M and Jerome N, allegedly stole a car on the day in question. Hiwat’s accomplice, Lorenzo M (20), was injured in his right lower leg. State attorneys still waiting for money
State attorneys recently indicated that they have been waiting to get paid since June 2014 and that they are tired of waiting for their money. A few state attorneys told Times of Suriname that would most likely stop handling additional cases. The attorneys explained that they have to cover several expenses when they visit their clients in jail houses and state penitentiaries nationwide. They have to pay transport costs and fuel costs and they can’t submit a statement of expenses anywhere. Unhygienic store and bakery closed down
A store, bakery and apartment complex which are located in the same building at Beekhuizen were closed down at once after a raid on Friday. “The situation that we came across in the various parts of the apartment complex is saddening. PVF and NPS form strategic alliance
The political wing of the Federation of Farmers and Farm Work (PVF) and the National Party Suriname (NPS) have formed a strategic alliance in order to haul in parliamentary in the districts Saramacca and Nickerie. The PVF will reportedly help the NPS to get its candidate elected in the Saramacca District while the NPS will give its spot on the list of candidates for the Nickerie Districts to the PVF. The seven opposition parties which have formed a political bloc known as the G7 will reportedly compile a collective list of candidates for each district.
