Soender Moesai (48) on Wednesday bled to dead after being injured in a circular saw accident along the Hajariweg in Munder . A 26-year old man who delivers milk and juice was robbed in the Brokopondo District on Tuesday afternoon. A woman on Tuesday told Times of Suriname that her jewels that are worth SRD 60,000 were stolen. She also claimed that SRD 1,750, € 650, three piggy banks and her bag which contained important documents were stolen. The woman who had moved into the new home with her family about a week ago had left the house around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. She noticed the burglary after returning home around 8:35. Telesur hit by multiple thefts
The Telecommunication Company Suriname (Telesur) recently reported the theft of three storage batteries of its mobile stations. Last year it reported about thirty thefts. Deputy Director Edmund Neus told Times of Suriname that “this is a serious situation.” On Januray 1, the batteries of a mobile station in Mariënburg were stolen. Thieves targeted the mobile station at Kampong Baroe in the Saramacca District on Saturday and on Sunday they hit the mobile station along the Anton Dragtenweg. Ravaksur to take legal action over OKB issue

Criminals spray pepper spray in victim’s face
Criminals on Saturday sprayed pepper spray in the face of a man whom they wanted to rob. The victim was walking from Sunny Point to Leiding 20 when three men ambushed him. Two of the perpetrators were aimed with guns and the third one was armed with pepper spray. More than 17,000 traffic tickets declared expired
More than 17,000 traffic tickets that were handed out to drivers last year have been declared expired due to mistakes that were made by investigators. Police Commissioner Humphrey Tjin Liep Shie indicated that 46,000 traffic tickets were handed out last year. Most of the traffic violators do not pay the fine immediately which is why the documents are sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Many of the official reports were taken from the pile due to mistakes made by the officer who handed out the traffic ticket. The profits of the Central Bank of Suriname (CBvS) rose sharply with SRD 184.3 million in 2013. The bank’s net profits rose with SRD 150.1 million in 2013. The net profits had risen with SRD 72.2 million in 2012. The Central Bank on December 30, 2014 published its annual report 2013 which is a culmination of half-yearly reports on the economy in 2013 that had previously been published.
