Pahlad will remain legislator of MC
Charles Pahlad, former deputy chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), told Times of Suriname that he will hand in his NDP membership card one of these days. MP Pahlad explained that he will remain a legislator for the Mega Combination (MC) so that the coalition will be able to keep counting on the majority of seats in Parliament. China gives millions to Suriname as New Year’s gift
Suriname has received $9.6 million from the People’s Republic of China. Half of this is interest free while the other half is a donation. Both nations formally wrote down the specifications for the financing of the Wanica Medical Center Construction Project in a Letter of Exchange. Chinese Ambassador Yang Zigang signed the letter on behalf of China while the ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs signed the letter on behalf of Suriname. Mariska Ajaiso and Alexander Bappa are the proud parents of Zimaysia Rusoph Ajaiso who was born at 00:02 at s’ Landshospitaal on January 1. Zimaysia Ajaiso is officially the first newborn in 2015. Newmont prepays $100 million
Newmont Mining Corporation recently announced it made a $100 million prepayment toward a five-year, $575 million unsecured amortizing term loan received in March 2014. The term loan was used to repay $575 million of convertible debt that matured in July of 2014. RO minister: “We must serve everybody regardless of political color”
“ When you see me dressed in yellow and black that means that I am busy with a political activity but when I am busy with official business I dress in neutral colors,” said Regional Development Minister Stanley Betterson at the ministry’s end-of-the-year party. Prison riot leaves 2 injured
A prison riot that broke out at the Penitentiaire Inrichting Duisburglaan (PID) state penitentiary left two people injured. Reports indicate that a policeman and an inmate were injured during the prison riot. The deputy director at the Ministry of Justice and Police, Paulus Pinas told Times of Suriname that a prisoner attacked a policeman with a sharp object. The policeman who sustained a stab wound in his arm defended himself by shooting the prisoner in one of his legs. The prisoner was reportedly rushed to the hospital.
