Proper tax collection could rake in SRD 2.1 billion

Inspector  Ruben Mendonça  who will officially become Acting Chief Inspector on January 2 told Times of Suriname that “if taxes are collected properly, the sum of SRD 2.1 billion which policymakers are eying can be achieved.” He explained that the earnings from imports will add a significant contribution to achieving this goal.  Mendonça also told  Times of Suriname that he will fill in and that he will not change much. The crime rate has risen slightly

Statistics from the Police Force Suriname (KPS) indicate that there has been an increase in reported crime. Police Commissioner  Humphrey Tjin Liep Shie on Monday indicated that the increase is less than 10%. Police officials will review the statistics to find out of more crimes were actually committed. The police commissioner thinks that people’s willingness to press charges has resulted in an increase. Drug dealer caught red handed ..IN PRISON

Prison guards on Friday confiscated a batch of marihuana from an inmate. It is suspected that the suspect  sold the marihuana to his fellow inmates. Baby is nation’s first fireworks victim

A 6-month-old baby is officially the nation’s first fireworks victim.  Olton Pinas, Public Relations Officer  of the Fire Department Suriname (KBS), told Times of Suriname that the Fire Department received word from the Emergency Room at the Academic Hospital Paramaribo on Sunday. He pointed out that it is still unclear how the baby was injured. Salvation Army to ‘erect’ computer room for youths

The Salvation Army recently announced that it would ‘erect’ a computer room for the nation’s youths. The computer room will reportedly be constructed on the premises of the Salvation Army along the Henck Arronstraat. “The facility will not only be for the youths who are staying at the Salvation Army’s Ramoth Children’s Home,” said Major Vilece Thomas. “The computer room will  be for each youth who needs to access the internet for educational purposes.”  According to Thomas, the internet is no longer a luxury. Police confiscate porn calendars

Police officers from the  Nieuw-Amsterdam Police Department last week confiscated pornographic calendars at several stores.  The police reportedly found out that storekeepers had given these calendars to their customers. Police officials made it clear that they  disapprove of this because it is in violation of the moral code and affects the development of the nation’s youths. Police impound cars of illegal parkers

Several car owners who recently ignored the concrete poles that were placed along the sidewalk near the Paramaribo North District Commissioner’s Office received an unpleasant surprise.
